Abstract :
The object of this study is the interpretation of the cultural heritage of the municipality of Manaus (AM), where this heritage is raised, analyzed and endorsed through the precepts of interpretative planning. The general objective of this work was to analyze the contribution of the extension project - Meet Manaus: interpreting its cultural and natural heritage - in relation to the students perception and sense of belonging to the heritage. As specific objectives, to compare through the essays students interest in cultural heritage, before and after the interpretative work, analyze and identify the interpretative strategies and information adopted in the interpretative proposal. The theoretical framework was elaborated from a bibliographical research in secondary sources such as books, theses, dissertations and articles that deal with discussions involving the concepts of heritage, tourism planning, interpretation of cultural heritage and interpretative planning. In the field research, the city tour is described and evaluated and the writing of the essays made by the elementary students of the public school system of the city. It is concluded that interpretive planning signals as a way out for the sustainable use of heritage, as it establishes a relationship between heritage, visitor and community offering information that leads him to reveal his identity.
