Abstract :
The figure of the paraprofessional has emerged in the inclusive process as the person responsible for accompanying the child in the inclusion process. Although there are law’s projects that try to guarantee their function, there is no specific definition regarding the role. Given this, this research aimed to identify functions and difficulties involved in the work of the paraprofessional and understand how relationships established with members of the school team and family can impact inclusive process. 22 were interviewed - 4 of them paraprofessionals. The results indicate the lack of precision regarding the job description of this professional, acting in isolation from the others involved. Paraprofessionals also pointed to the relationship with the management team as superficial, and they ensure compliance with the laws, they also need to ensure conditions to provide continuing education. Finally, they indicated the need to invest in partnerships with families. It is concluded that the definition of the roles of paraprofessionals, together with proposals that include collaborative teaching should be considered as alternatives for a joint work of this professional with the others involved in inclusion. This research is expected to contribute to the reflection and implementation of changes regarding the work of the paraprofessional.
