Abstract :
Morro Boa Esperança is considered cultural heritage of the municipality of São Gabriel da Cachoeira, State of Amazonas. However, the area is the target of strong anthropic action and does not dispose studies about the fauna and flora, making it impossible to measure the aggressions suffered. The knowledge and monitoring of organisms sensitive to environmental changes, such as butterflies, can provide information about the environmental changes. Thus, this project aimed to discover the diversity of butterflies in Morro Boa Esperança. For this, it was made photographic records and observations of butterflies in the area, between November 2019 and February 2020. Twenty species of butterflies were registered, belonging to the families Nymphalidae, Hesperiidae, Riodinidae and Lycaenidae. With the largest number of representatives of Nymphalidae and Hesperiidae. There was a predominance of heliophile species, since the observations were concentrated along the trails. Such information is insufficient to make any inference about the environmental conditions of the area, but the species observed indicate a strong tourist potential. Therefore, it is recommended to continue monitoring the butterflies of Morro Boa Esperança and, especially, informing and involving the surrounding community, for their preservation.
